Media facades enforce the requirement for increasingly intelligent structural systems. The effective integration of sun protection, building air handling and solar energy technology makes significant demands on mechanical and computer system solutions and increasingly makes the facade a technical challenge if costs and maintainability are to be managed successfully.
Displays and facades of a piece
One of our principal ambitions for this project is to produce media facade components comprising a complete solution, which can be included in the planning process of the building. This is the only way to ensure the seamless integration of a media facade with the building, in which the architecture is not only visually more resolved but also facilitates ease of maintenance of the display components and better protection against the environment.
Integration into an existing facade system
AluKönigStahl has been setting new standards in facade technology for much of its long history. The company’s ability rapidly to develop new structural components as part of a comprehensive standard product family, is one of the major strengths of mediafacade.net. LED display elements are being integrated with this structural system to create building materials that clip together to form media facades. In this way LED pixels become an intrinsic part of the structural system rather than a disparate technology applied after conception of the architecture.
LED display elements can be integrated with several different structural components using this approach - in mullions and glazing profiles, with pole-bar/catch constructions, on surface panels or on sunlight protection segments. Even when special requirements outside the standard facade component family are employed, structured cablling, diagnostics and content management can be optimised seamlessly to integrate LED components with the building.
